The basics
Dispel that image of a red-pen-wielding, bespectacled, frowning editor tearing up your work. I believe in an editing process that's collaborative, honest, and mutually respectful.
Our workflow will take shape in several different ways, depending upon the type of work you need and your deadline. All conversations start the same, however. I'll ask you:
I'll also ask to see a sample of your work, and if you'd like, can do a sample edit (up to one hour of complementary work). This has two benefits: I get a feel for your writing and style, and you can see my work as well.
The next step is a cost estimate, which I'll base upon all the information you've given me. My rates depend on the type of work you need, but fall within the ranges listed on the Editorial Freelancer Association's website.
To wrap up our discussion in a tidy package, I'll send you a simple author-editor agreement--covering cost, dates, and terms--that we will both sign.

- What type of editing do you need?
- What is the word count?
- What is your timeframe?
- Do you prefer a certain style guide or dictionary? (If not, no fear--I will suggest one based upon your project and audience.)
